As USC’s AI Strategy Committee continues the discussion to guide its forthcoming recommendations on how AI can be leveraged to enhance the university’s mission, we are reminded that the strategy will only be as strong, creative, and inclusive as the community that defines it. As we begin the Spring 2026 semester, I am excited to announce that active USC students, faculty, and staff can now explore generative artificial intelligence with USC’s ChatGPT Edu workspace. Over the next few days, you will receive an invitation from OpenAI to activate your ChatGPT Edu account.

As we close the year, we want to take a moment to thank you for the engagement, energy, and insight you've brought to the community discussion on USC's AI strategy. The questions you raise, the innovation you highlight, and the conversations you spark constantly reminded us why this work matters so much: because we're not just participating in the future of AI; together, we're shaping it.

At USC’s recent AI Summit, we shared an exciting announcement:  As part of our commitment to expanding equitable and responsible AI, ChatGPT Edu will be available for our university use in 2026. All active USC students, faculty, and staff (including Keck Medicine of USC) will gain unlimited access to ChatGPT Edu, which includes OpenAI's most advanced models like GPT-5. 

I’m energized and inspired by the extraordinary interest and enthusiasm throughout our community surrounding this week’s inaugural USC AI Summit. With standing-room-only attendance and many more people participating online, the momentum is palpable for us to play a leadership role in the higher education artificial intelligence revolution — creatively, quickly, ethically, and responsibly.

Every day, artificial intelligence becomes a more visible part of our lives — from how we learn and work to how we connect with each other. One of my top priorities as president is to harness USC’s opportunity to lead in the age of AI, and I’m pleased to announce two major initiatives that will guide how we integrate this technology across our academic mission in an ethical and responsible manner.

The USC men’s track and field team wins its first indoor team title since 1972.

The university is one of just 19 institutions recognized as top producers for both of the prestigious programs for 2024-25.
